Classes and Workshops

The Conversation: Movement as Dialogue

This intermediate to advanced somatic improvisation workshop invites dancers into The Conversation: an exploration of movement as dialogue through my Reflective Embodiment Framework. We begin by grounding the body and mind through guided meditation and somatic awareness, then transition into structured improvisations that treat movement as an exchange rather than a performance. Through improvisational scores such as movement “speed dating” and embodied self-description, participants investigate how sensation, impulse, memory, and attention inform their choices. Rather than striving for aesthetic outcomes, dancers practice listening, responding, and articulating through the body, cultivating presence, adaptability, and relational awareness. This workshop reframes improvisation as a living conversation, between body and mind, self and other, intention and response.

Work With It: A Somatic Approach to Conditioning

This intermediate to advanced conditioning workshop for dancers ages 16 and up reframes training as collaboration rather than correction. Grounded in the question, What do you need to be conditioned?, the workshop begins with breath awareness and a guided body scan to assess each participant’s present physical and mental state. From there, dancers move through a progressive warm-up and targeted strength and mobility exercises, maintaining sensory attention while refining alignment, endurance, and control. Rather than prioritizing output alone, participants practice regulating effort, adapting exercises to their needs, and tracking internal feedback. The session concludes with breath, reflection, and brief journaling to note shifts from the beginning to the end of class. Dancers leave physically challenged and better equipped to train with clarity, autonomy, and sustainable intention.

Bounce That Jazz

Bounce That Jazz is a contemporary fusion class that explores movement through cultural lineage and spiritual practice. Drawing connections between the Southern Baptist shout, the ring shout, New Orleans bounce, and Black vernacular dance traditions rooted in Africanist movement practices, dancers engage with rhythm, grounding, and communal expression. Set to music by New Orleans musicians blending jazz, bounce, and blues, the class begins with a grounding warm-up that moves from the earth to standing, followed by dynamic across-the-floor movement and culminating in a phrase that embodies the rhythmic vitality of these traditions. Designed for intermediate to advanced dancers, this class invites participants to move, reflect, and examine their cultural and historical lineages through embodied practice.
